Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama will unveil his solo exhibition “Light・Transparency・Reflection” in Chengdu on August 3—the show’s first stop in Southwest China.
Jointly organized by Promised Land and Nanzhige, the exhibition will take over the historic plaza at Chengdu IFS in the heart of the city. It will also mark Sorayama’s first-ever outdoor pavilion showcasing his iconic brand of futuristic aesthetics.
A trailblazer in mechanical and futurist art, Sorayama has spent decades exploring the visual power of “light,” “transparency,” and “reflection.” He is known for using minimal pigments to trace the movement of light, navigating the boundary between physics and fantasy. As he often says, his work is built on these three elements—and this pursuit forms the backbone of the exhibition.

The show will feature nearly 30 original works, including paintings, sculptures, and multimedia pieces spanning from the late 1970s to today. A standout highlight will be Floating Sexy Robot: Infinite Mirror Room, which immerses viewers in a hyper-futuristic sensory environment. The exhibition will also premiere Sorayama’s newest digital art piece for 2025, inviting audiences to journey through a virtual universe with his signature robot muse.
To deepen the engagement, the event will offer limited-edition blind box tickets and unveil dozens of Chengdu-exclusive items. Among them is the world’s first SEXY ROBOT-inspired ice cream—a playful, mechanical-themed dessert created especially for the occasion, adding an unexpected dose of art and fun to the sweltering summer.
