On July 26, Chinese coffee chain M Stand opened its first overseas location in Kyoto, Japan—marking a pivotal move in its globalization strategy.
Located within the historic Nanzenji preservation area, the Kyoto store blends the ancient city’s cultural heritage with sleek modern design. Staying true to its signature minimalist aesthetics, M Stand brings together large areas of white space and a sense of Zen to create a tranquil atmosphere that resonates with Kyoto’s local spirit. The store’s 270-degree panoramic windows and striking two-story layout—defined by a bold contrast of black and white—offer a distinctive scenic coffee experience, setting a new benchmark for how commercial spaces can harmonize with cultural environments.

Product-wise, the brand embraced local flavors by developing a line of Kyoto-exclusive offerings. The limited-edition blend series incorporates iconic Kyoto ingredients like matcha, yuzu, and mikan to deliver uniquely tailored flavors. Meanwhile, a new single-origin fruit series highlights refreshing notes of watermelon, kiwi, and melon—demonstrating the brand’s creative edge. Its matcha-focused specialty drinks add visual drama and signature flair, reinforcing M Stand’s identity as a modern innovator.
Deepening its cultural integration, M Stand collaborated with Kyoto’s century-old confectionery brand Kanaya Masahiro to launch “Kurimanju,” a handcrafted pastry that fuses traditional techniques with a contemporary brand sensibility. The store also introduced a collection of exclusive lifestyle merchandise—such as tote bags, tumblers, passport sleeves, and fridge magnets—extending the brand’s “coffee + lifestyle” ethos into everyday moments.
