Stella McCartney and renowned Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama launched a limited edition unisex capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2024.
This collection marks the second collaboration between Stella McCartney and Hajime Sorayama, featuring a range of Hajime Sorayama's work, including the silver strawberry design, the "Platinum Dream" slogan, and the famous Sexy Robots series.
Genderless, ageless, and effortless Stella staples become a wearable canvas for Sorayama’s art, rendered in sharp detail on ready-to-wear pieces crafted from 100% conscious materials. Key items include varsity jackets made using repurposed deadstock fabrics from NONA Source, roomy Savile Row tailoring suits in responsibly sourced wool, organic cotton denim sets, satin loungewear suits, and shimmering silver knit pieces. The colorful and vegan accessories collection includes the iconic Falabella bag, Frayme bag, and Elyse chunky-soled derby shoes.
Stella McCartney says, "I came across Sorayama’s work in the late 90s when I was living in Paris and was absolutely mesmerized by its cheeky sensuality and airbrushed quality. I met with him when I was next in Japan; we have been friends and I have been collecting his art ever since. He makes me laugh in a naughty way, and I hope this capsule communicates the playfulness and mutual admiration we have between us."
For his part, Hajime Sorayama observes, "I don’t know much about fashion, but I do know Stella has put her heart and soul into the brand and built it with extraordinary passion and determination. Let’s take care of ourselves and keep creating work. I love you!"
Using fashion and art as a medium, the two friends hope to communicate messages of sustainability and sensuality to a rising generation. In addition to the handpicked pieces, Hajime Sorayama has created a new piece for the capsule collection - a Vitruvian Woman in his singular 'superrealism' style, reimagined with Stella's face.
The Stella McCartney + Sorayama unisex capsule collection is available in limited quantities at the boutique, Stella McCartney's Tmall flagship shop, and WeChat shop in December 2023 and January 2024, respectively.
