Beijing's "Song" Art Center, founded by former Trends Group president Su Mang, was officially unveiled on October 29th, alongside the opening exhibition "Resonance of Song: Tracing Spiritual and Aesthetic Journeys through Time and Space."
The exhibition is academically supervised by the Chairman of the China Artists Association Fan Di’an and curated by the Director of the Art Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts Zhang Zikang, with Su Mang as the producer and chief curator. The exhibition brings together 42 works from 22 well-known contemporary Chinese artists, encompassing painting, sculpture, installation, and more. It aims to reflect the resonance between the 798 Art District and the era over the past 20 years, showcasing the artists' life realities in a global context and their aesthetic attitudes woven within Eastern historical and spiritual contexts.
The name of the "Song" art center is inspired by the "Book of Songs". Su Mang hopes to build it into a "three-dimensional magazine": it will integrate multiple creative methods of art through a deep understanding of artists and use a new curatorial method. Give artists the freest creative platform and provide audiences with an unprecedented perspective of art appreciation.
Su Mang, who once dominated the fashion media industry, chose to venture into the contemporary art field at sixty. This decision is largely due to the accumulation of knowledge and resources gained from founding "Bazaar" magazine in 2003.
Fashion and art have always been intertwined, and although Su Mang emphasizes a complete identity transformation, it's hard to assert that she won't reconnect with the fashion industry through "Song" in the near future. We also look forward to seeing the possibility of more activities in the Chinese contemporary art and fashion industry in the development of "Song".
