PERFUMER H Opens First Flagship in Shanghai

British niche fragrance house PERFUMER H has officially opened its first flagship store in mainland China—an immersive, four-story boutique tucked away on the leafy Julu Road in Shanghai. Conceived by founder and perfumer Lyn Harris, and realised by Chinese architecture studio Atelier tao+c, the space is both an olfactory sanctuary and an artistic statement of intent.

From its hushed scent “library” on the first floor to its gallery and consultation rooms above, the store invites visitors to slow down and engage deeply with the brand’s artisanal approach. Alongside signature scents and hand-poured candles, visitors are encouraged to explore the scent lab, refill station, and a lush indoor garden, where the world of PERFUMER H opens into tea rituals, textile installations and unexpected culinary collaborations.

In a move to deepen cultural dialogue, the brand launched its first “Resident Artist” initiative, inviting creatives to share their practice within the space. Its debut exhibition, Process, brings together international and Chinese artisans alike—from British glassmaker Michael Ruh to local woodworkers—underscoring the brand’s ongoing commitment to material, craftsmanship and local context.

For Harris, the Shanghai opening is about more than global expansion—it’s about connecting meaningfully. “This is not just market entry,” she said. “It’s about feeling the city’s rhythm and spirit—and becoming part of its fabric.”
