On March 29, Chinese designer bag brand KUNOGIGI opened its seventh boutique at Gate M in Shanghai’s West Bund.
After launching its debut store in Shenzhen, KUNOGIGI has quickly expanded its retail presence to Hefei, Chengdu, Xi’an, Tianjin, and Changsha. Its seventh location, now open at Shanghai’s West Bund, introduces a new “workshop” retail concept, offering consumers a more immersive glimpse into the brand’s innovation and whimsical design spirit.
While digital sales remain the core driver of KUNOGIGI’s business, the brand has managed to maintain steady growth in a tough retail climate—thanks to its commitment to material innovation, product creativity, and consumer-centric thinking.
Offline success has followed. The brand reported over RMB 1 million in sales within 20 days at both its Changsha and Xi’an store openings—underscoring its growing influence as a top-tier player in China’s fashion accessories space.
The Shanghai Workshop is designed as a creative space where KUNOGIGI brings the evolution of its signature Piggy Bag series to life. From its early design iterations to its pioneering inflatable shaping technique, the boutique features multimedia displays and installations inspired by the technical components of this craftsmanship.

At the heart of this new concept is an interactive experience. The store will host regular leathercraft workshops, allowing enthusiasts to engage hands-on with the art of bag-making. It is also the first KUNOGIGI boutique to offer personalized name customization, ensuring each bag tells a unique story.

A playful installation at the store entrance invites visitors to make a wish, transforming KUNOGIGI’s classic designs into an interactive landmark that deepens the brand’s connection with the city. Inside, digital and physical installations further explore the brand’s signature techniques, blending creativity with a touch of whimsy.

To mark the Shanghai opening, KUNOGIGI has partnered with sand art artist Mingzhe to create a special series of works merging traditional craft with modern artistry. The collection features a large Piggy Bag lamp crafted from shadow puppet leather, two revolving lanterns, and a sand animation film depicting the early years of KUNOGIGI founder as a young artisan in Hangzhou.

Honoring its early tradition of “Yum Cha,” KUNOGIGI has also designed a set of Xiaolongbao coin purses as a unique opening gift. These small yet thoughtful pieces subtly weave Shanghai’s culinary culture into the brand’s narrative.
